Introduction

What happens when the most human thing we know, creativity, meets the most logical thing we have built, the computer? That is the question running through this book like an electric current. The machine becomes a mirror, a tool, a partner, and occasionally a challenger. It can force us to ask what we value in art and why. It can expose how much of our own creativity rests on learned conventions. And it can remind us that originality often comes from recombining old forms in startling ways. The real drama is not whether computers will become human artists, but what their strange new forms of making will teach us about ourselves.
